About Me

Welcome...I'm delighted that you chose to visit! I started this blog in March 2010 and I am so happy that I did. It has made me more aware of the many ways that God is blessing my life. I have made some special friends who bless, teach, encourage, and entertain me! My desire is to be an encouragement to you. I hope you will tarry for a while and that you will come back to visit often.

a sewing party

Every year in June, a group from our church goes on a mission trip
to Brazil. They teach and do construction...and anything else
the local missionaries ask them to do.
The area they go to is very poor and the people there have very little.
So, every year the ladies of our church make tote bags that are
used to deliver groceries in to the families there.
The women love the bags and are surprised when they are told
that they are a gift for them.
This past Sat, we stated making the fifty bags they need.

There was lots of fabric.

And some pretty fancy sewing machines...

I took my "not so fancy" machine, but the instructions
for the bag were a little complicated, so I opted to
do something besides sew! :-)

There were ladies who measured and cut...

and ladies who ironed (I was one of those!).

Here are the pressed pieces waiting o be sewn.

There were 5 "sew-ers" and they did it in an assembly line...
each person doing one step.

Here is one of the finished bags!

There's another "bag day" planned.
We are hoping to have more helpers next time
so we can finish the job.

From what I understand, these Brazilian are the
ultimate "recyclers". They re-use and re-use
everything! So, it is a blessing to give a gift they should
be able to use for a long time.  :-)

Thanks so much for visiting and for all your kind comments.
I am so grateful for all of you!
I hope you have a wonderfully blessed weekend!

  1. What a great idea that is. I'd have to be at the ironing board for a project like this! Brazil in June should be interesting with World Cup happening there...

  2. How sweet that you all were using your talents to serve ... and that's an excellent reminder that we don't have to go to a foreign country to reach out to others. ;-)

  3. I love the assembly-line process - it really does make the job go fast! The ironing is an important step and so much more fun for a non-sewer. Have you ever gone on this yearly trip?
