About Me

Welcome...I'm delighted that you chose to visit! I started this blog in March 2010 and I am so happy that I did. It has made me more aware of the many ways that God is blessing my life. I have made some special friends who bless, teach, encourage, and entertain me! My desire is to be an encouragement to you. I hope you will tarry for a while and that you will come back to visit often.

January...over in a "flurry"!

This has turned into an interesting week!
First, Tues evening, we had our snowstorm...first snow since 2010.

Thursday morning, Hubby took our taxes to the
preparer and found out we are going to have to pay more taxes...
for the first time in about 7 years.

Later Thursday morning, we had a patient in our waiting room
 complain of feeling bad.
One of our nurses and one of our PAs quickly
took him to an exam room.
His neck was hurting, he was pale and clammy,
his pulse was rapid and he was becoming
disoriented.
Our PA came out of the room and told one of
our receptionists..."call 911!"
The ambulance arrived with the paramedics and, shortly,
the patient was on his way to the hospital.
Only the third time, in the 13 years I have worked there,
that an ambulance has been called...the first time
since 2011.

Tomorrow, C.W. and I are going to the circus...
Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey!
It will be a first for both of us...
for him at 7, for me at 60!

So, January is ending with a "flurry" of firsts!
Makes me wonder what Feb will bring! :-)

cousins

Our three children grew up without cousins.
It was something they missed because
most of their friends had larger families.
I remember one time, our younger son coming home
from a family get together at the home of one of
his friends and saying..."we need some kids"!
I said, "Well, I've had all the children I'm gonna have.
So, having more is up to you and your brother
and sister!" :-)

Well, they are taking care of that...

so their children ARE growing up with cousins!
And it is SO much fun!! :-)

woohoo...SNOW!

Well, the weather guy was right...
WE GOT SNOW!!
It started Tues night about 9 o'clock
and stopped about 11.
Depending on where you lived, our area got
1-3 inches.
It got above freezing for a couple of hours today so
some melted, but it's going to freeze again tonight.
So, its suppose to be here for another day or two.
Here's some pictures...

from our front door

the boxwoods that line our driveway

 the wood pile

hedgerow to the left of our house

looking down our street

tree next door

also next door

above, our fish pond frozen over
below, our "snow bunny"!

azalea by our driveway

ivy on our back fence

our house from the driveway

my car...look at that smile!
(stole this idea from Angela!)

"Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor dark of night
shall keep the USPS from making its appointed rounds."
I said this to the postman as he dove up... it made him laugh!

Our first snow storm together was Feb, 2973,
four months before we married.
It was  the biggest ever in Georgia...17 inches of snow!

Here we are almost 41 years later...
still "snow buddies"!

Last time we had snow was 2010 and it was really
 more ice than snow.
So, this is a real treat for us!
But... our city is not equipped for it, so schools,
our Air Force Base,
and many businesses closed.
But, I don't think there were many who complained
about having a "snow day"!  :-)

a deal for a dollar

When I checked my email at yahoo yesterday,
I saw this article:

15 Things You Should Buy at the Dollar Store!

GREETING CARDS

SOCKS

PARTY SUPPLIES

GIFT WRAP, BAGS, BOXES

SEASONAL DECOR

READING GLASSES

HAIR ACCESSORIES, BRUSHES, AND COMBS

PREGNANCY TESTS

VASES AND DECORATIVE BOWLS

COFFEE MUGS AND GLASSES

DISHWARE

STORAGE CONTAINERS

PICTURE FRAMES

BAGGED CANDY

DISH TOWELS

My favorite dollar store is Dollar Tree where everything is $1.
I haven't bought all of these at our store, but I have purchased
enough to know it is a stop worth making.
If I can save money, especially on things you throw away
like cards and party and wrapping supplies, I am all for it!
So, if you have a dollar store in your area and have
never checked it out...
you don't know what you've been missing!! :-)

s...is for spinach and... SNOW!

It's what's for dinner tonight...
grilled pork chop, spinach casserole and pasta salad!
I like fresh spinach in salads and on sandwiches, but
I'm not a fan of cooked spinach (any greens, actually!).
However, if you "doctor" it up some, that makes it
palatable for me!
So, if you are interested...here's the recipe:
2  10 oz boxes frozen spinach
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 can cream of mushroom soup
8 oz sour cream
8 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 stack Ritz crackers, crushed
1/2 stick butter, melted

Boil spinach in salted water, drain.
Mix with egg, soup and sour cream.
Add cheese, mix.
Prepare 8x8 baking dish with cooking spray.
Pour mixture into dish.
Mix crushed crackers and butter until crumbly.
Sprinkle on top of casserole.
Bake at 350 for 30-35 mins.

And Believe it or not...

they are predicting SNOW for us starting
tomorrow night!
Estimating 3-4 inches!
We will see if it really happens.
I am excited...Hubby not so much! (bah! humbug!)
I hope I will have some pictures of the "white stuff"
to share!
I have my fingers crossed!! :-)

writing His story

I really like the words to this song sung by Francesca Batistelli:

Write Your Story

They say
You're the King of everything
The One who taught the wind to sing
The Source of the rhythm my heart keeps beating

They say
You can give the blind their sight
And You can bring the dead to life
You can be the hope my soul's been seekin'

I'm an empty page
I'm an open book
Write Your story on my heart
Come on and make Your mark

Author of my hope
Maker of the stars
Let me be Your work of art
Won't You write Your story on my heart

My Life
I know it's never really been mine
So do with it whatever You like
I don't know what Your plan is
But I know it's good, yeah

I want my history
To be Your legacy
Go ahead and show this world
What You've done in me
And when the music fades
I want my life to say

I let You write your story, write Your story
Write Your story, write Your story...

on MY heart!

"For our heart is glad in Him,
Because we trust in His holy name."
Psalm 33:21

oh my goodness!

Google image

They say that we get more forgetful as we age. That is probably true, but sometimes I think
I am just not paying close enough attention to what I am doing. Some cases in point:

-- Wed night I went to visit a friend whose mom was in the hospital. In my defense,
I haven't been in this particular hospital in many years. But, anyway, I found her room
easily...got off the elevator, walked down a long hall, passed another set of elevators,
turned left and her room was on the right. But when I left, instead of passing the first set of
elevators, I got in one. I pressed "1". When I got off, I looked to the left....nurse's station.
I looked to the right...nurse's station. Hmmm, I should have seen a sign that said
"Main Lobby". Then I looked at the wall in front of me..."3rd Floor". (And before you say
I just got off on the wrong floor...I was the only one on the elevator and the "1" was lit up
when the doors opened!) So, I stopped a young lady pushing a cart and said, "How do I get
out of this place?" She laughed and said, "You must have gotten on the wrong elevators.
It happens all the time." She put me on the right elevator which took me to the lobby and
above all odds, I managed to find my car all by myself!  On the drive home, I remembered
that long walk down the hall and passing those elevators.  Yep, just not paying attention!

--Yesterday, I was doing a little sewing project. I saw my bobbin was almost empty. So,
I removed my bobbin cover, replaced the bobbin, pulled the thread through, and was ready
to replace the cover. I looked on the table, in the little compartment of my machine that holds
bobbins, needles, etc., the floor, my chair, the compartment again, the floor again (this time
with a flashlight), under the fabric I was working with, and the compartment, one more
time..... and there it was! I dropped it in there when I took the new bobbin out.
But, why, pray tell, didn't I see it the first two times??? Not paying attention!

--Back in Nov, I made a little overnight trip. I packed one outfit to wear to an event
the next day. I have two pairs of navy blue pants...one fits, the other doesn't. When I started
to get dressed...can you guess which pair I had packed? Yep, the WRONG ones! So, I had
to go shopping for something I didn't need because...I didn't pay attention!!

--When I made that last quilt, I thought I was being so careful. But when I was about to finish sewing the binding on, I realized I had sewn it to the wrong side first. So, I had to rip out all those stitches! An hour later, I was able to start sewing again. By now, you understand...I wasn't paying close enough attention! :-)

So, I'm not sure what the answer is.... slowing down, stop trying to multi-task or maybe just wearing blinders!! :-)

baby, it's cold outside!

It's brrr... COLD here in middle Georgia!
Night and early morning temps in the teens...
not suppose to get above freezing today!

But, we probably won't get any snow...
we seldom do.
However, we have been adopting snowmen for
several years now.
So, regardless of the weather, we have
snowy friends to look at. :-)

The other Christmas decor is all boxed up
and put away, but our snow buddies
will visit until the end of Feb.
They make me smile and the grands
love playing in the "snow"!!

a lesson from the birds

A few months ago, we bought this bird feeder. There was the inevitable discussion on where to
put it....Hubby wanted it in the middle of the yard. I wanted it near the house so we could see the
birds feeding there. So, after I used my incredible powers of persuasion (ha! ha!), Hubby agreed.
We placed it and filled it and started watching. Day after day passed...no birds. It made me sad to think they might not come and partake of the blessing of this feast.  Betsy assured me that they
would come. She said they have to find it and they may watch it for a while to make sure it is safe. Well, she was right...they finally started coming after a couple of weeks. Now, almost every time I walk out my front door, I hear a flurry of wings as they fly to the nearby dogwood tree. And, when I get out of my car after returning home, "swoosh" there they go! Mostly we have mourning doves
and robins, but a few days ago, C.W. saw a male cardinal. I am so happy that they finally came and are enjoying the reward of being brave.

As I thought about their cautiousness, it made me think about my own. I wonder how many opportunities I have missed because I waited until it was "safe". How many blessings I didn't
receive because I hesitated and the blessing went to someone else. It is so tempting to stay in my comfort zone and do what is easy for me. But God challenges me to move out, to be brave, to trust that "faithful is He that called me, who will also do it." He says, "I will never leave you or forsake you" and that He will give me "all I need for life and godliness." He also reminds me through the Apostle Paul that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."  So, I'm hoping that the next time my Heavenly Father prompts me to go...I will go. The next time He says do...I will do.
And that in my obedience, He will receive glory and I will learn to trust Him more! Then, maybe,
 I will be a bit braver! :-)

book it!

Back in November, I shared about the baby shower
my daughter's friends hosted for her.
But I never told you about the food!
The theme for the party was children's books.
We were asked to buy a book rather than
a card to go with our gift and books
and book pages were used in the decorations.

So, in keeping with the theme,
LOOK what they did with the food...

The way they used the titles of the books (and the characters)
to plan their refreshments was so thoughtful
and creative.
I was thoroughly impressed!!
She is blessed to have such generous and caring friends!
