autumn's here

google image

The leaves are changing color, the sky's a little gray,
And the air is a little cooler bringing crispness to the day.
The harvest is almost over, the garden's nearly done.
And we pack away our summer things as we feel a cooler sun.
County fairs and festivals tickle our fancy
Thoughts of soup and cider start our taste buds dancing.

Autumn comes softly, slowly changing our days
With it's very own cooling and colorful ways.
The leaves and the breeze telling the story...
The season is here in all of its glory!

doors, doors, and more doors

When we finish our addition, we will have a new front door.
So, we went shopping last night to pick out one.
Do you know how many different doors
 there are to choose from?
Geez!!

There are wooden doors, metal doors, and fiberglass doors.
And the fiberglass doors can be wood grain or smooth.
There are stained doors...oak, cherry, pine.

 And there are painted doors...
in any color you could desire!
Or, you can get white and paint/stain it yourself.

There are doors with no glass, a little glass.
or more glass than door.

Doors with one-sided side lights, two-sided side lights,
top lights, or no lights at all.

A little overwhelming!
Since it is the door we use all the time...coming and going...
it's important that it be durable and attractive.
After all, we will be opening and closing it several times a day.
So, we chose a fiberglass and since our house is simple,
we chose a simple door. I'll show you when it is in place!

All this door shopping reminded me of another door.
Jesus said,
"Listen, I stand at the door and knock.
If anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in to him..."

So glad I opened that door! :-)

the queen is here

A while back, I posted about us shopping
 for a new bedroom suite.
After 39 years of sleeping in a double bed, we were
"moving on up" to a queen.
Well, we finally found one we both liked and it was
delivered last weekend while I was in Tenn.

We had to take down some wall decor because the
headboard was higher and the dresser was taller.
I still have to rehang or replace those.

 But, here is a look...
we are very happy with it. We like the style and the
color of the wood. It actually matches the ceiling fan,
which was not a consideration on our part, but
it's nice that it turned out that way.

It is made by Bassett. One of the things we liked about it
is that it is made in the USA by a family company...which is unusual these days. Most wooden furniture is made overseas.
When they delivered it, there was a sticker on the
mirror that said they donate trees to replace all those
they use to make furniture.
That's responsible of them and nice to know, too.
All in all, a great purchase...something we love from an
American  manufacturer who cares about the environment!
Oh, and it is very comfortable, too! :-)

the fun job :-)

While the others were busy unloading a moving truck,
I picked up the girls after school and we headed
to the hotel where we would spend the night.
They had fun swimming in the pool.

After dinner, it was off to DQ for ice cream!

Saturday, after a soccer game, we went to Chuck E. Cheese
for a couple of hours of game playing...

 ...and ride riding!

We stopped in at K Mart and admired their Christmas trees!
I know it happens every year, but good grief,
can we have Thanksgiving first???

Our last stop before dinner and going home to their "new" home
was the nail salon for pedis!! They certainly got pampered...
even had a Barbie movie to watch while their feet soaked!!
I loved the chairs!

We had a lot of fun together, but they were ready
to get to their new house. They love their new rooms
and their "huge closets" (their words!).
The youngest is real excited about the stairs that
lead to the bonus room over the garage!
They had lived in their old house their entire lives,
but they didn't seem to be a bit sad about leaving it.
And it certainly is a big part of a new beginning
for our son and our sweet daughter-in-law...
and we couldn't be happier for them!
God is so very good!!

the new digs

Here is the new house our older son and his family
 moved into over the weekend.
It is a lovely home with lots of room and a nice yard.
The bay window on the left is a bedroom...
there is another bay window in the master
bedroom on the back of the house

I was so busy with the girls I didn't get many pictures,
but here is the tray ceiling in their "great room".
They will use the room on the left as an office.
The double doors open to a nice deck which overlooks
a large backyard.
The girls love the fact that this fan can be operated with
a remote control! Cool!

The pretty fireplace and mantle is a nice feature.
I always thought a mantle would be so much fun to decorate!
And they have great hardwood floors!

There are lots of pretty cabinets and drawers
in the kitchen.
I like cabinets that don't go to the ceiling,
so you can put pretty stuff up there on
top of the cabinets!

And these two really cute decals are in the
 girls' bathroom...perfect!

Of course, I spent most of my time with these two sweeties!
We had a lot of fun. Can you tell that by the picture???

I'll tell you more about that next time!:-)

house plans

Well, we are not closed, but we are remodeling. Those of you who have been around for a while know that last year about this time, we put our house on the market and starting looking for something with a bigger family room and a laundry room (been married 39 years, never had one!). Well, we did not sell our house and we did not find one we wanted to buy. So, we decided to stay where we are and add those two things... plus a "rocking chair" porch...something I have always wanted! We are also going to do some remodeling in our existing house which includes getting a pantry...yea!!!

And....the work starts tomorrow!!! It is suppose to take about 60 days. I know it is going to be inconvenient and messy, but I am so excited about having more room, more storage, and more convenience when it is done. It has been a long time coming! If the Hubby will stop "sweating the small stuff", I hope to enjoy every step along the way!

I will keep you in the loop as things progress. And I hope to have some beautiful pictures to show you in about two months!

moving day

google image

Tomorrow is moving day for our older son and his family. They sold their house and have bought a newer, nicer, BIGGER one! We are so very happy for them! I am heading to Tenn in the morning to help. My job will be to care for and entertain the little girls while everyone else is unloading the truck and unpacking. I think (once again!) I have the best job! Don't you agree? :-)

I'm sure I will have some pictures of their new home to share when I return. I hope you all have a wonderfully blessed weekend!

the boss

Today, at the office, we were talking about how our boss responds to things. Some things that are important to him seem so insignificant to me, while other things, that would seemed to be important, are shrugged off. Sometimes it is a little confusing! Of course, I always remind myself that he is the boss, so what he thinks is all that matters! :-)

It reminded me of how grateful I am that God has made it perfectly clear in His Word what is important to Him. We are to...

"love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul,
with all our strength, and with all our mind.
And love your neighbor as yourself."
Luke 10:27

After all, He is the boss and what He thinks is all that matters!

quite a bite

Got this in an email today. I love it and knew
immediately that I had to share
it with you!

That would be quite a testimony wouldn't it? :-)

speechless

Speechless
by Steven Curtis Chapman

Words fall like drops of rain
My lips are like clouds
I say so many things
Trying to figure you out
But as mercy opens my eyes
My words are stolen away
With this breathtaking view of your grace

And I am speechless I’m astonished and amazed
I am silenced by your wondrous grace
You have saved me
You have raised me from the grave
And I am speechless in your presence now
I’m astounded as I consider how
You have shown us
A love that leaves us speechless

So what kind of love could this be
That would trade heaven’s throne for a cross
And to think you still celebrate
Over finding just one who was lost
And to know you rejoice over us
The God of this whole universe
It’s a story that’s too great for words

Oh how great is the love
The father has lavished upon us
That we should be called
The sons and the daughters of god

We are speechless so amazed
We stand in awe of your grace
We stand in awe of your mercy
You have saved us
We stand in awe of your love
From the grave
We are speechless

We are speechless in your presence now
We stand in awe of your cross
We’re astounded as we consider how
We stand in awe of your power
You have shown us
A love that leaves us speechless
We are speechless

I am speechless

lots of doing

No, this isn't an ad for Home Depot!
(Their slogan is "More Saving. More Doing")
Just sharing about our "doing" on our
camping trip last weekend with
 our two oldest grandgirls.

There was viewing,

  and playing

and eating

and walking

and roasting

 and "puzzling"

and watching

and coloring

 and grilling

 and hiking

 and posing

and resting

 and pedaling

and wading
(too cool to swim)

and digging

 and climbing

and putting
(they both got a hole-in-one on the first hole...
amazing!)

 and riding

 and smiling!
(which we did a lot of...
and laughing, too!)

It was a fun time and we sure enjoyed introducing
 these two to camping.
I think they will be ready to go again when
we can arrange it for...
 More camping. More doing!

lots of nature

Are you familiar with the "Little House" series of books
 by Laura Ingalls Wilder?
There's Little House in the Big Woods
Little House on the Prairie...
well, this is the Little House on the Mountain!!

We had a lovely shaded site right on the lake
at Fort Mountain State Park.
Notice the little bit of color in the trees.

Love the sunshine in the trees
lining the road through the campground.

 Everything was lush and green.
Most of the plants there bloom in late spring and early summer,
but there were a few things "showing off"!

 Even the toadstool was pretty!

Due to the drought here in Georgia, there wasn't
much water cascading, but it was still nice to look at.

A little creek wound its way through
 the woods to the lake.

There were breathtaking scenic overlooks
that, well, took our breath away!!

This bridge along the path led us to
 some great adventures.

More about that next time!
