Welcome...I'm delighted that you chose to visit! I started this blog in March 2010 and I am so happy that I did. It has made me more aware of the many ways that God is blessing my life. I have made some special friends who bless, teach, encourage, and entertain me! My desire is to be an encouragement to you. I hope you will tarry for a while and that you will come back to visit often.

shell, shuck, snap!

We've been working on filling our freezer with veggies!
Last week, Hubby picked a bushel of
pink-eyed purple hulled peas...
the ones C.W. helped us shell!
That resulted in 7 quarts.

Friday morning while C.W. was at VBS, we shucked, rinsed,
blanched and cut off 16 containers (mostly quarts, but a few 1 1/2 pts)
of sweet corn!

Yesterday, Hubby picked 1 1/2 bushels of zipper peas.
They are a large pea and their hulls are packed with peas.
So, the yield was 24 quarts!!

The peas and corn came from a "u pick" farm a few miles
down the road. Last night, we canned green beans from
Hubby's little garden....6 quarts.
I expect we will have enough to do some more
by the weekend.

This winter, we will enjoy the fruits of our labor ...
and labor it is! But, not too bad when you do it together! :-)

  1. everything here is what my mother canned and froze and i had to help and it was not fun to me. i was upset because the MALES in the family did nothing, it was all up to mother and me.... your grandson looked so cute shelling and i forgot to mention it. daddy grew all of this and a lot more. we had to can everything he grew... that is all we had to eat, mother bought flour and sugar and corn meal and dried powdered milk and white bread.
corn off the cob is in my top five favorites of food. i love it. like it on the cob to...we had squash and tomatoes and peppers, okra and Irish potatoes and what you have here. we picked wild berries and strawberries from friends that grew them, and we had 3 pecan trees that had to pick up all the nuts and crack and pick them out... wasn't i abused?

  4. I think about learning to can ... seems like a lot of work, but then it would be worth it over the winter when we're eating what we grew in our own back yard.

  7. I see you've been doing what I've been doing! It's hard work, (especially the corn!) but the veggies sure do taste good in the winter, don't they?
