I heard something last night that I had heard once before, a long time ago. I think it spoke to me more this time because I know or know of many couples who... have adopted or are in the process of or are open to...adopting children. Even some who have natural children are hoping to enlarge their family in this way. Anyway, this is what I heard... we all know that natural parents have the right, by law, to disown their children. And most of us have heard of parents who, in extreme circumstances, have done just that. Did you know that adoptive parents can't do that? When they appear before a judge to finalize the adoption, they have to take an oath to provide for, protect and care for the child. They also swear to never abandon or disown them. They are bound by that oath forever.
With that in mind, Ephesians 1: 5 takes on an even greater meaning...
"God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family
by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ.
That is what He wanted to do, and it gave
Him great pleasure."
by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ.
That is what He wanted to do, and it gave
Him great pleasure."
This is the New Living translation...not so good for study or memorization...but it's nice to read. And in this case, makes the truth much more personal. Just like other parents, He adopted us because He wanted to and it pleased Him. We are His and He is committed to us...forever!
I heard that a long time ago too. I have always thought about it and it made that verse seem more powerful to me. I am glad you posted it because it is nice to know that was why He put us as adopted as sons. I love stuff like that. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAmazing to think about!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that fact. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteYour question on no-reply. When you comment do people comment back to you? Do your comments go to your email account? It's been so long ago I'm not sure which setting it was. If you are linked with Google+ I know that there is something you have to fix in your settings. I can send a link for that. I went through my regular settings and I think there is an area in your profile where you say it is okay to give your email address. Also under settings on your blog under mobile & email I have my email address in the comment notification box. I do believe it was in the profile section but I'm not sure. If this doesn't work maybe I can find a link to help with this.
What a wonderful new perspective on being adopted into God's family! Chosen forever! I needed to hear this.
