I knew I would have to avoid the TV and newspaper this year being that it was the 10th anniversary. But for weeks, it has been everywhere....on the cover of magazines at the grocery store check-out, on billboards, on the radio, even in my mailbox. I grieve over the events of that day, too. It was a terrible, senseless attack and I will never forget it either. But, like most folks look forward to enjoying their birthday, I would like to enjoy mine.
Of course it was mentioned in Sunday School. But our teacher did say this, "As horrendous as it was, just think how bad it could have been." How true! When you think how completely those terrorist took us by surprise...they could have been in planes all over our country. Many more thousands could have been killed. Only the hand of God kept our land from bring completely destroyed.
So, in the years to come, I will continue to remember Sept 11 as my birthday and as a day of great tragedy, but, most importantly, as a day when God chose to demonstrate His great mercy to us.
"God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea."
"Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen.
I will be exalted in the earth."
Psalm 46:1 &10
A belated happy birthday to you! You share the date with my hubby...and many other people I know. Your birthday definitely took on a new 'feel' ten years ago...but it is one that can't be forgotten!
ReplyDeleteLove that scripture passage.
Oh! Happy birthday! I can see where you would feel lost on this day...
ReplyDeleteI love the truth that you shared. Yes, it could have been so much worst, I know that is no consolation to those who were personally affected by loss. But it is the hand of God that says enough, no more.
Blessings, Debbie
We have family that have a Sept. 11th birthday also. Happy belated birthday to you.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try again to post this comment. Lately I haven't been able to post comments here...
It worked...yippee!
ReplyDeleteBut as God always does, He gives us joy, I am glad you know that is the day of your birthday. You know my birth Mom Died on Sept 11, 1969, I always made sure I did something nice of someone on that day. Then 9-11 came and the whole world changed. I still think that we can always redeem the time and I will celebrate your birthday now each year. So glad I know now and I wish I knew before hand.
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated birthday!
Happy birthday week! Your birthdate sure did take on a peculiar ring 10 years ago...I know that whenever we read about something in history that happened on my date, it stands out. To have everyone talking about "9/11" when it's something you had already "laid claim" to must be a little unnerving.
ReplyDeleteI hope that in years to come, you can feel truly free to celebrate your birthday.
