Made me think about how important it is for me to fill my mind with things that are eternal.
Phil. 4:8 says.....
"Finally brothers (and sisters), whatever is true, whatever is noble,
whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence,
if there be anything worthy of praise, think on these things."

whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence,
if there be anything worthy of praise, think on these things."
Memorizing scripture, praise songs, hymns fills the storehouse of my mind with valuable information that will always be useful. The Holy Spirit will bring them to mind for instruction, encouragement, and comfort in my time of need.
I've been talking about exercise. I know that exercising my mind is just as important as exercising my body...they both need to be strong and healthy so that I will be....

It bothers me too. I can remember every rock song that I listened to over and over as a teenager comes back to me when I hear the first note and memorizing scripture is much harder today. I am reminded of that all of the time.
ReplyDeleteGood reminder this morning...to fill my mind with good things...and how important it is to help my kids fill their minds with Scripture verses, good songs, etc.
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great day!
I've asked myself that many times...why oh why can I remember so much useless things - even things I would just as soon forget...and can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday - and then try to truly commit to memory things of great value...oh, the struggle!
ReplyDeleteI can almost still remember Paul Revere's Ride that I had to memorize when I was in 4th or 5th grade. lol! but I have trouble with my time sheet that I have to do on line every two weeks. Hmm! Anyway very good point..
ReplyDeleteMy memory is getting so bad. Mostly I can't bring the right word to mind. Concentrating and memorizing things that have eternal value is a good encouragement for sure!
ReplyDeleteSo true - we often fill our minds with useless information. That verse in Philippians is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that all of Psalm 27, which I memorized after high school graduation when I was on a senior trip to Dallas with my youth group, still sticks in my head.
ReplyDeleteMakes me feel okay that I also still remember most of the menu where I worked in high school... pop and coffee, 40 cents; chicken pot pie $2.30, world famous Miller and Paine Cinnamon Rolls, 80 cents. Lots of 25 cent tips and boy-oh-boy the one dollar tips made my day!
